12 Basic steps to reduce Coronavirus risk in your workplace

The safety and wellbeing of our clients and teams of dedicated cleaners up and down New Zealand are always our first concern at Clean Corp and we believe it’s important for you to be informed.

Here’s 12 basic steps you can take to reduce the Coronavirus risk in your workplace :

1) Ensure you have hand sanitizer around the office and encourage staff to use it often

2) Also, boxes of tissues around the office and encourage staff to use them then dispose of them in the bin right away

3) Encourage staff to wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

4) Cover coughs and sneezes - make everyone aware that they should use a tissue (boxes provided) or the inside of their elbow, not your hands or nothing at all

5) Encourage staff to avoid touching their face, nose or eyes

6) Keep your distance from people who appear sick, and send them home

7) Think about reducing business travel, especially international travel

8) Instead, connect using online tools like Skype, Facetime or Zoom

9) Clean desk policy… now’s a great time to implement a clean desk policy because cleaners can only clean desks that are free from mess

10) Avoid sharing items - dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels unless they’ve been thoroughly cleaned in a dishwasher or with hot soapy water

11) Make sure there’s good airflow in your office weather permitting, and your air-conditioning has been serviced recently [should be done every 12 months]

12) If anyone starts feeling unwell, they should stay at home if you haven’t already come to work and seek medical attention (calling ahead). If at work they should be sent home and seek medical attention (calling ahead).

It pays to have a plan (incorporating these 12 preventative steps) and communicate that plan to your employees.

Additional steps you might consider:

1) Cleaning ‘high-touch areas’ - Check to make sure your service level agreement includes cleaning ‘high-touch areas’ like countertops (reception & kitchen), desks, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, fridge handles, kettles. And consider adding these back into the scope of services if they’re not already covered.

2) Increase the frequency of your cleaning - If you want to reduce the risk of Coronavirus consider increasing the frequency of your office cleaning. Making sure areas are cleaned more regularly prevents the transfer of bugs that build-up over the hours/days between cleans.

3) CleanCorp ‘Hi-Clean’ - If you’ve been concerned about particular areas then consider a CleanCorp Hi-Clean or deep clean. Think of it as a ‘spring clean’ you might do at home - your regular cleaning maintains but a spring clean gets things to a new level of cleanliness. A level that can then be maintained by regular cleaning.
